To take on Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest in Indian market, GM planning to launch The Chevrolet Beat compact sedan codenamed MCM in India by 2017. Chevrolet confirmed that next-generation Beat be available both hatchback and compact sedan model.
The Chevrolet Beat compact sedan is going to be based on the same M300 platform as the current model. The vehicle will share parts and borrow design cues with the new Spark that was unveiled earlier this year. The compact sedan is expected to be less than 4 metres in length, making it eligible for excise duty benefits.
Under the hood, the all-new compact sedan is expected to be powered by a family of 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, which will also power the hatchback. The three-cylinder diesel engine is unique to the Indian market, and the new three-cylinder petrol engine is essentially a downsized version of the 1.4-litre four-cylinder Ecotech motor from the new Spark.
Chevrolet is expected to launch a compact sedan based on the Beat hatchback in 2017. It will be launched alongside the next gen hatchback and will be the American automaker’s second entry into a heavy volumes segment.
Chevrolet announced that it will make a new investment of US$ 1 billion (Rs. 6,400 crores) in India. The company plans to launch 10 new locally produced cars in the market till 2020. Among the products that we can expect, are the Trailblazer SUV, which will go on sale in October 2015, and the Spin MPV, which will be launched in early 2017. The new Chevrolet Beat Sedan is a first step for it.
